Nichia seeks provisional injunction against Taiwanese LED maker
November 16, 2005 - Nichia Corporation announced today that it had filed a provisional injunction action in Taiwan Hsinchu District Court to enjoin Taiwanese LED manufacturer Advanced Optoelectronic Technology Inc. (AOT) from infringing Nichia's design patent.
The design patent (Taiwanese registration No. 089,036) is one of Nichia's design patents concerning SMD Type LED. The LED corresponding to this design patent is mainly used as the backlight of the liquid crystal display of cellular phones. Nichia holds design patents for this SMD Type LED in other countries as well as in Taiwan.
Nichia believes LEDs (AOT-4008S-W312-Z, AOT-SHWU-Z-H) distributed by AOT infringe this Nichia's design patent, and with Taiwanese expert's opinion, seeks injunctive relief to enjoin the sales of the products.
Nichia will take necessary measure to protect its intellectual property rights against any companies in any part of the world.
