Nichia's Actions against a US maker of Lighting Appliances
Nichia Corporation announced that it has recently reached resolution of an intellectual property dispute with a maker of Lighting Appliances in the U.S. Nichia has been actively pursuing its patent enforcement strategy and has been demanding that those who have sold products infringing Nichia's U.S. patents stop selling such products.
King of Fans, Inc., is a maker of Electrical Household Appliances in the US. King of Fans, Inc., had purchased products that contained LEDs from Asian makers, and they were selling those products without knowing of the infringement of Nichia's patents. King of Fans, Inc., understood Nichia's claim and opted for early settlement after they received a warning letter from Nichia. A lawsuit was avoided. Both parties agreed to establish a positive business relationship.
Nichia will continue to identify infringing LED application products in the market, and enforce its intellectual property rights against any infringers in any part of the world. By doing so, Nichia hopes to contribute to the growth of a fair market, where intellectual property is valued. Nichia has especially targeted several industries for its enforcement efforts; one of the industries is the electrical household appliance industry.
