Seoul Semiconductor Design Rights Found Invalid

Nichia Corporation announced today that the Korean Intellectual Property Tribunal (“IPT”) ruled on May 22, 2008 that the design registration (No. 364186) of the LED manufacturer Seoul Semiconductor Co., Ltd. (“SSC”) is invalid, finding that said registration was similar to the prior art design (Design Publication; Similar Design Registration No. 294490-2) of Nichia Corporation (“Nichia”).IPT rendered the above decision in the invalidation trial that was filed by Nichia on July 24, 2007 against SSC. The invalidated design of SSC is for a side view light emitting diode (“LED”).
